Vehicles drive on the left-hand side of the road. Tasmania’s roads are scenic but can be narrow, winding or affected by changing weather conditions. Allow more time than the distance alone may suggest and avoid unnecessary driving around dawn and dusk, when wildlife is particularly active near the roads. Official guidance also recommends slowing down on gravel, icy or winding roads. Discover Tasmania driving guidance
A Tasmania national parks pass is required to enter the national park. During shuttle operating hours, private vehicles are not permitted on Dove Lake Road. Visitors leave their car near the visitor centre and use the park shuttle to reach Dove Lake. Official Cradle Mountain information
Tasmania’s weather can change rapidly, especially at Cradle Mountain and across the central highlands. Warm and waterproof clothing is recommended throughout the year. Snow, ice and temporary road restrictions are possible during winter, and walking plans should always be adjusted to current conditions.
